Dear All,
In this post, let's crochet "The Snowman" together.
Our project will be used as not only an ornament but also a coaster for our Christmas tea or coffee :)

MATERIALS

Crochet hook 2,5 mm.
Yarn
Yarn needle
Scissors

ABBREVIATIONS

st(s) = stitch (es)
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
FLO = front loop only
BLO = back loop only

METHOD

** We will work in joined rounds for the head. (Both the back side and the front side)
There are different methods for working in joined rounds. My method is:
I begin every round with ch 2 (does not count as dc) and continue crocheting according to the pattern, and at the end of the round,  join the  to the first dc stitch with a slip - stitch (does not count as a stitch). And again I begin the new round with ch 2 (does not count as dc) and continue crocheting by making my first dc in the same stitch as the sl-st join.
Let's see some examples.
Round 1: Magic ring and 12 dc into it.
We will make a magic ring, ch 2 (does not count as dc), crochet 12 dc in the ring, and sl-st to the first dc.

Round 2: 2 dc in each st around (24 sts)
Ch 2 at the beginning of the round (does not count as dc), crochet 2 dc in the same stitch as the sl-st join (which means 2 dc in the first dc of the previous round), and continue crocheting 2 dc in each st around and at the end sl-st to the first dc.

Round 3: (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (36 sts)
Ch 2 at the beginning of the round (does not count as dc), crochet 1 dc in the same stitch as the sl-st join (which means 1 dc in the first dc of the previous round), then crochet 2 dc in the next st and continue crocheting according to the pattern till the end of the round, and at the end sl-st to the first dc.

** And we will work in rows for the hat and the scarf.

THE PATTERN

THE BACK SIDE

** We will work in joined rounds method which is described in the "Method" section above.
Work with the white color.
Round 1  :  Magic ring and 12 dc into it.
Round 2  :  2 dc in each st around (24 sts)
Round 3  :  (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (36 sts)
Round 4  :  (dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (48 sts)
Round 5  :  (dc in each of next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (60 sts)
Round 6  :  (dc in each of next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (72 sts)
Round 7  :  (dc in each of next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (84 sts)

THE FRONT SIDE

** We will work in joined rounds method which is described in the "Method" section above.
We start with the orange color.
Round 1  :  Magic ring and 12 dc into it.
Round 2  :  2 dc in each st around (24 sts)

Change color and start working with white color.
Round 3  :  (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (36 sts)

Round 7  :  (dc in each of next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st) repeat 12 times (84 sts)

THE JOINING ROUND OF THE FRONT AND THE BACK SIDES

While joining the two sides, we work with only the back loops of the front side, and the both loops of the back side. (We insert our hook into the back loop of the front side and the both loops of the back side at the same time.)

The joining round is also the 1st row of the scarf and the hat.
We will use 3 colors for the joining round.

Red color : 6 dc + 14 hdc + 6 dc
White color : 19 sc
Blue color : 3 dc + 14 hdc + 3 dc
White color : 19 sc
Join with a sl-st.

THE 2ND AND 3RD ROWS OF THE SCARF

We finished the first row of the scarf while joining the two sides.
Now we continue crocheting the 2nd and 3rd rows of the scarf.
** At the beginning of the row, we make 3 raising/turning chain which is also counted as the first dc.
Work with red color.
Row 2  :  2 dc in each of next 2 sts,
                dc in each of next 3 sts,
                2 hdc in next st,
                (hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) repeat 3 times,
                 dc in each of next 3 sts,
                2 dc in each of next 2 sts (34 sts)

We turn our work and start crocheting the 3rd row.
** At the beginning of the row, we make 1 turning chain (does not count as a stitch)
Row 3  : hdc in each of the stitches. (34 sts)

Work with blue color.
Row 2  :  2 dc in first st,
                dc in next st,
                2 hdc in next st,
                (hdc in each of next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) repeat 3 times,
                 dc in next st,
                2 dc in next st (26 sts)

We cut our yarn. We skip the first 5 stitches from the right side and start crocheting the 3rd row.

Row 3  : 2 dc in first st, dc in each of next 14 sts, 2 dc in next st (18 sts)

We turn our work and start crocheting the 4th row.

THE TASSELS OF THE SCARF

I used some piece of red and white yarn and attached them at the left side of the scarf.

THE FACE

And finally you can embroider the face as you wish.
My Snowman's eyes are on the 4th round with a width of 3 stitches. :)
My Snowman's mouth is between the 4th and the 5th rounds.

And here comes our Snowman.
I hope you have enjoyed crocheting with Lovely Lila Dolls.  :)

How To Decrease One Single Crochet ( Invisible Decrease )

How To Decrease One Single Crochet ( Invisible Decrease ) While crocheting, you need to change the number of the stitches in order to give your project the proper shape. This tutorial is about decreasing the number of stitches. To decrease one single crochet (sc), we join two single crochet stitches together and make them become one stitch. By this way you will have 1 stitch, instead of 2 stitches.  There are two ways for decreasing one single crochet. - Normal / Regular Decrease   - Invisible Decrease In this tutorial I am going to show you the invisible decrease method which I use in all my amigurumi projects. With this method, "decreased stitches" are nearly unnoticeable and the surface of the finished project looks smoother. Let's make "one single crochet decrease" together. :) If you prefer a video tutorial, please  click here. Abbreviation: sc : single crochet st(s) : stitch (es) dec : decrease sc2tog : single crochet 2 stitches together 1. The top of a s

How To Crochet In Spiral / Continuous Rounds With Single Crochet

How To Crochet In Continuous / Joining Rounds With Single Crochet  Dear all, If you are crocheting in rounds, there are 2 ways. - Working in continuous / spiral rounds and - Working in joined / joining rounds. This tutorial is about working in continuous / spiral rounds. I will also show you how to make a single crochet in a single crochet (sc) stitch. While working in continuous / spiral rounds, we keep crocheting round and round continuously. We don't join the end and the beginning of the rounds. So while working in spiral rounds, it is important to use a marker to identify where each round ends and begins. Let's start crocheting together. :) If you prefer a video tutorial, please click here. Abbreviation: sc : single crochet 1. We crochet our first round by making the magic ring.  ( Please click here for the magic ring tutorial.) 2. I place my marker, before beginning the second round. I like to use a piece of yarn as a marker, at the end of the rounds. (By this way, the las

How To Crochet In Joined / Joining Rounds With Single Crochet  Dear all, If you are crocheting in rounds, there are 2 ways. - Working in continuous / spiral rounds and - Working in joined / joining rounds.  This tutorial is about working in joined / joining rounds. I will also show you how to crochet a slip stitch and how to make a single crochet in a single crochet (sc) stitch.  Let's start crocheting together. :) If you prefer a video tutorial, please  click here. Abbreviations: sc : single crochet sl st : slip stitch ch : chain 1. We crochet our first round by making the magic ring.  ( Please  click here  for the magic ring tutorial.) While working in joined rounds with sc, we end every round with a slip stitch (sl st), but unfortunately these slip stitches form a horizontal seam.  And we always begin the new round with ch 1, which is called the raising chain. By this chain, beginning of the rounds are at the same level as the end of the rounds. Remember that, raising ch 1 is ne
